Mayors from nine cities around the world confirmed at WECP Rio de Janeiro

Mayors from nine member-cities of the World Energy Cities Partnership (WECP) have been confirmed for the entity’s annual meeting, to take place between October 25 and 28 in Rio de Janeiro. Authorities from Aberdeen, Atyrau, Daqing, Doha, Esbjerg, Halifax, Kuala Lumpur, St. John and Stavanger are part of the 16 international delegations whichwill, in this edition, discuss strategies to attract investments from the ‘energy capitals’ and Rio de Janeiro’s urban transformation experiences while preparing for the 2016 Olympic Games.


The schedule includes 25 events, among them conferences and networking sessions with global leaders, executives, investors and authorities. The expectation of Rio Negócios, the organizer for the Rio edition of WECP, is to gather around 400 participants from 150 companies, domestic and international, related to the oil and gas sector.


Established in 1995, WECP has as its objective expand business, tighten commercial bonds and develop partnerships and strategic alliances among its member-cities in the energy sector.Currently, there are 23 world energy capitals part of the WECP collaboration network, among them Houston (USA) – headquarters for the entity’s secretariat –, Aberdeen (Scotland), Dubai (UAE), Calgary (Canada), Dammam (Saudi Arabia), Stavanger (Norway) and Doha (Qatar).
