PPSA (Pré-Sal Petróleo S.A.) President Luis Fernando Paroli (pictured) said this Thursday (30) that the first auction of the Union’s natural gas is expected to be held in the last two months of 2026, possibly in November. The announcement was made in Brasília after the National Council for Energy Policy (CNPE) approved the resolution establishing guidelines for the sale of the Union’s natural gas.

The CNPE resolution provides for two auction models for natural gas sales. The first consists of short-term auctions, for delivery between 2027 and 2030, preferably aimed at free consumers in the basic industries. The second model will be intended for long-term sales, starting in 2030, for new projects or for expanding the production capacity of companies in these sectors.

The first auction will be intended for the sale of the Union’s production forecast for 2027. The expectation is to hold annual auctions through 2029, with the purpose of selling the production forecast for the following year.

According to Paroli, PPSA is in the final stage of negotiations to hire Petrobras as the marketing agent for the Union’s natural gas, a necessary step to make the supply of processed gas to the market possible. “Once this stage is completed, we will begin preparing the drafts of the notice and contracts for the first auction,” he said.

The new regulations also allow small quantities of the Union’s natural gas to be sold on the short-term market (spot market), providing greater flexibility to operations.
