The pre-salt production was recorded in January 2017, totaling approximately 1.588 million barrels of oil equivalent per day, surpassing that of December 2016, when an average of 1.571 million barrels of oil equivalent per day were produced. The production, from 73 wells, was approximately 1.276 million barrels of oil per day and 49.5 million cubic meters of natural gas per day, an increase of 1.1% over the previous month. The pre-salt production corresponded to 47% of the total produced in Brazil. The "pre-salt" wells are those whose production is carried out in the geological horizon called pre-salt, in fields located in the area defined in item IV of “caput” of article 2 of Law 12,351 / 2010.

In January 2017, oil production in Brazil totaled 2,687 million barrels per day (bbl / d). The volume represents a growth of 14.2% in relation to the same month in 2016 and a decrease of 1.6% in comparison to the previous month. Natural gas production was 109.9 million cubic meters per day, up 13.1% on the same month in 2016. There was a decrease of 1.6% in relation to the previous month. The total production of oil and natural gas in the country was approximately 3.378 million barrels of oil equivalent per day.

The Lula field, in the Santos Basin, was the largest producer of oil and natural gas, producing on average 729.5 thousand bbl / d of oil and 31.6 million m³ / d of natural gas. Lula's oil production is the largest ever recorded by a field in Brazil, surpassing the previous record of the field itself in December 2016, which was 710.9 thousand bbl / d.

Gas Burning

The use of natural gas in the month reached 96.1%. Gas flaring in January was 4.3 million cubic meters per day, down 1.5% from the previous month and up 30.8% from the same month in 2016.

Producer Fields

Offshore fields produced 94.9% of oil and 80.4% of natural gas. The production took place in 8,521 wells, being 746 offshore and 7,775 onshore. The fields operated by Petrobras produced 94.2% of the oil and natural gas.

Estreito, in the Potiguar Basin, had the largest number of producing wells: 1,102. Marlim, in the Campos Basin, was the offshore field with the largest number of producing wells: 63. FPSO Petrobras 58, producing in the fields of Jubarte, Baleia Azul, Baleia Anã and Baleia Franca, produced, through 13 interconnected wells, 199.2 thousand boe /d was the UEP (Stationary Production Unit) with higher production . Although the bulletin considers each Block Development Area BC-60 ("Parque das Baleias") individually, ANP Board Resolution No. 69/2014 determined the unification of these areas to the Jubarte Field. However, as a result of arbitration proceedings and judicial proceedings instituted, separate treatment shall be granted to each development area until the completion of such proceedings.

The mature terrestrial basins (fields / long-term tests of the Espírito Santo, Potiguar, Recôncavo, Sergipe and Alagoas basins) produced 141.6 thousand boe / d, of which 115.4 thousand bbl / d of oil and 4.2 million M³ / d of natural gas. Of this total, 136.5 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day were produced by Petrobras and 5 thousand boe / d for concessions not operated by Petrobras, of which 306 boe / d in Alagoas, 2,188 boe / d in Bahia, 64 boe / d in the Espírito Santo, 2,244 boe / d in Rio Grande do Norte and 234 boe / d in Sergipe.

Other information

In January 2017, 288 concessions, operated by 26 companies, were responsible for domestic production. Of these, 81 are maritime concessions and 207 are terrestrial. It is worth mentioning that of the total of the production concessions, two are in exploratory activity and produce through Long-Term Test (TLD), and another eight are related to contracts in areas with marginal accumulations. The average API grade was 26.3, with 33.1% of the production considered as light oil (> = 31 ° API), 44.1% medium oil (> = 22 API and <31 API) and 22.8% oil Heavy (<22 API).
