Petrobras clarifies that the statement from the Federal Public Prosecution Ministry that resulted in the preventive detention of Mr. Nestor Cerveró in no way alleged that the company’s current directors received any bribes.

In the Federal Public Prosecution Ministry’s statement dated December 31, 2014, the federal government’s public prosecutors said that “Paulo Roberto received ‘bribe’ payments even in 2014, because the companies pay this throughout the execution of contracts and often delay the payments, as was found.” The statement also says that “If Paulo Roberto continued to receive bribes – and very large ones – until 2014, despite having left the board in 2012, it is reasonable to infer, on grounds of probability, that Cerveró is in a similar position, and this is being investigated.” Paulo Roberto Costa and Nestor Cerveró are former directors of the company and not currently serving directors.

Petrobras has been recognized as a victim by the judicial branch, and it reiterates that it will continue to do its utmost to collaborate effectively with the authorities to elucidate the facts.
