Firjan launched on Wednesday (4/12) the 3rd edition of the document "Perspectives of Natural Gas in Rio de Janeiro". In addition to the main statistical data on product supply and demand in the state and in the country, the publication analyzes the gas regulatory framework, through articles from the ANP, and the Rio de Janeiro state government.

The document also presents a Map of the Natural Gas Industry in Rio de Janeiro, produced by the Energy Research Company (EPE), and the companies' view on market opportunities and the future of natural gas, especially Rio. Petrobras presents its positioning for the energy market and NTS assesses the importance of an integrated natural gas transportation system.

BNDES presents the prospects for natural gas as a factor for the development of urban mobility and Marlim Azul Energia benefits from the thermoelectric park in Macaé. Naturgy highlights the role of the distributor in opening the gas market and the Rio de Janeiro State Federation of Industries assesses the potential for expansion of the gas market in Rio.

According to the study, in Brazil, between 2014 and 2019, total production increased by more than 30%, while net production grew by only 9%. However, reinjection increased by more than 150% and imports fell by 54%, confirming the change in the profile of the total gas supply in the state, becoming mostly national (from 45% to 70%).

In Rio de Janeiro state, in the same period, total production increased by more than 110% and net production increased by more than 70%. Already the reinjection had an increase of more than 440%. Thus, even with a significant increase in product reinjection in the state, energy availability was driven by the growth in production in Rio de Janeiro, which increased its share of total net production in the country by 15 percentage points.

At the opening of the event at Casa Firjan, the president of the federation, Eduardo Eugenio Gouvêa Vieira, stressed the importance of all agents of this market to be acting to improve the natural gas business environment. According to him, the diversification of agents contributes to lower costs and give more transparency to the sector. "I am sure that this meeting is a big step towards moving towards a more competitive business environment with more effective results," said Eduardo Eugenio.

Firjan Oil, Gas and Naval Manager Karine Fragoso said that the challenges to consolidate the new gas market are huge to make the market and product price more competitive, but the benefits to be reaped are even bigger.

In the panel, which discussed "Advances in the gas regulatory framework," José Mauro, director of Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels Studies at Energy Research Company, said that by 2030, the country should more than double production. natural gas According to him, the estimate predicts a jump from the current 59 million to 147 million cubic meters (m³) per day.

Also participating in the discussion were Aldo Barbosa, deputy director of the MME Natural Gas department; Hélio da Cunha Bisaggio, ANP Infrastructure and Movement Superintendent; and Celso Bastos, Oil, Gas and Energy Superintendent of the Rio de Janeiro State Government's Secretariat for Economic Development, Energy and International Relations.

The second panel discussed the "Opportunities for Rio and the market's vision for the future of natural gas". The debate brought together Andre Pompeo, manager of the BNDES Gas, Oil and Navigation Department; Álvaro Tupiassú, general manager of Petrobras; Ricardo Pinto, Commercial Director of NTS; Bruno Chevalier, President of Arke Energia / Marlim Azul Energia; and Katia Repsold, president of Naturgy.
