The Duque de Caxias Refinery (Reduc) in Rio de Janeiro achieved historical production records in 2024 for S-10 diesel and gasoline. From October to December 2024, the refinery produced 455 million liters of S-10 diesel, an 11% increase compared to the same period in 2023. Throughout the entire year, nearly 1.5 million liters of S-10 were produced, compared to 1.4 million liters in the previous year. In gasoline production, the refinery reached nearly 2.5 million liters, surpassing the previous record of 2.4 million liters set in 1999.

"These results confirm our operational excellence and were achieved thanks to the high reliability and availability of Reduc's process units. The numbers reflect Petrobras' ongoing commitment to providing quality products to meet market demands in a safe, sustainable, and competitive manner," said Luís Cláudio Michel, General Manager of Reduc.

The reliability and availability of the refining plants were crucial for the performance achieved. The increase in production is aligned with the higher market demand, indicating higher utilization of the refineries through the integrated planning of Petrobras' Refining, Transportation, Marketing, Petrochemicals, and Fertilizers (RTC) segment.

The production of 455 million liters of S-10 diesel in the last three months of the year is enough to fuel the tanks of 910,000 trucks with 500-liter tanks, contributing to a reduction in nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions.

Petrobras' S-10 Diesel, an ultra-low sulfur product with greater energy efficiency, is suitable for use in vehicles with SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) and EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) technologies, which have combustion mechanisms capable of reducing pollutant emissions.

Lower Emissions

In 2024, Petrobras' refining park achieved the lowest intensity of greenhouse gas emissions in its historical series, which began in 2019. The company recorded 36.1 kgCO2 per equivalent load, avoiding the burning of 475,000 m³/day of natural gas and the emission of 365,000 tons of CO2. This volume is equivalent to removing more than 6,000 diesel-powered city buses or over 60,000 gasoline-powered cars from circulation.

More Investment in Refining

Petrobras' current Business Plan foresees US$ 19.6 billion in investments in the Refining, Transportation, Marketing, Petrochemicals, and Fertilizers (RTC) segment by 2029, a 17% increase compared to the previous plan.

“We are enhancing the refining park, investing in modernization, and increasing production capacity. Petrobras is focused on efficiency, safety, and the profitable operation of its assets. The investments we make in refining are essential for the global performance of the refineries,” said William França, Petrobras' Director of Industrial Processes and Products.
