ABS Group will present Vattenfall Wind Power Ltd with the Certified Design Basis Verification for the Kentish Flats Extension Offshore Wind Farm Project. The project, which has been successfully completed, will be located off the North Kent coast, adjacent to the existing Kentish Flats Wind Farm.
Although obtaining this independent certification is not a legal requirement in many countries, it is considered a best practice for asset owners to assure reliability before moving into the detailed design phase of a project. This process allows for potential design specific issues to be identified and corrected in the early stages of the project, avoiding costly changes at a later stage and saving the asset owner considerable time and money.
“The certification process enabled the team members to identify and tackle potential issues in advance and assisted them when making decisions on technical aspects of the project,” ABS Group Vice President, Global Power Sector, Jan Behrendt Ibsoe said.
Due to the complexity of offshore wind farm projects, an independent and thorough review of the design basis is necessary to mitigate inherent risks and provide assurance to key project stakeholders. With a certified design basis verification from ABS Group, companies such as Vattenfall can count on a successful delivery and good performance results throughout the operational phase of their offshore wind farm.
“Vattenfall’s Kentish Flats Extension Project has a strong and professional team which helped us complete the design basis certification process,” Ibsoe said. “We are pleased to see the project progressing successfully and being involved in the next phase.”
