Aramco President & CEO Amin Nasser (photo) will be honoured this year with the WPC Dewhurst Award in recognition of his leadership and contributions to the oil and gas industry. He is only the twelfth recipient of the Dewhurst Award in the nearly 90-year history of the World Petroleum Council (WPC), with previous winners including Daniel Yergin (USA), Rex Tillerson (USA), Abdulla Bin Hamad Al Attiyah (Qatar), Guilherme De Oliveira Estrella (Brazil), HE Ali I. Al-Naimi (Saudi Arabia) and Sir Peter Holmes (UK). In 1933, Thomas Dewhurst (1881-1973), then president of the Institute of Petroleum in the United Kingdom, organised what was to become the first World Petroleum Congress and the Dewhurst Award is a tribute to him and to its recipient, who will also present the Dewhurst Lecture.

Nasser will receive the award during the Dewhurst Ceremony at the 24th World Petroleum Congress in Calgary, which will take place from September 17 to 21. Regularly featuring high-level industry and government representatives, the “Olympics of the Oil, Gas and Energy Industry” will be the perfect occasion to celebrate his outstanding career and contributions.

Pedro Miras, WPC President, called “Nasser a visionary in our industry” and someone who has “earned great respect from his team as well as his peers through his support of education and training, as well as his global cooperation and open approach to the challenges we face.” Miras added: “On behalf of our Board and Members I am delighted to congratulate him on this recognition.”

After graduating from the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia with a degree in petroleum engineering, Nasser joined Aramco in 1982. During a successful career of more than four decades, Nasser has served in a number of leadership positions in the company. Under his leadership, Aramco is engaged in the largest capital investment program in its history, building on its energy industry leadership position by expanding its oil and gas production capacity, increasing the downstream value chain with significant investments and joint venture partnerships globally, and developing new, lower-carbon energy solutions.

In addition, Nasser has called for the need for a materials transition, to address global greenhouse gas emissions associated with materials production. He is also an advocate for an efficient, accessible, and world-class supply chain, that promotes the growth of domestic small-to-mediumsized enterprises.

The advancement of people through education and training, as well as advancing the company’s innovation and technology strategy has been a priority for him. He is a champion of youth development and the company’s Young Leader’s Advisory Board (YLAB), that serves to connect Aramco’s leadership with the youth of the company.

In addition to his corporate responsibilities, Nasser is a member of the International Advisory Board of the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals; the Board of Trustees of the King Abdullah University of Science & Technology; the World Economic Forum’s International Business Council (IBC); the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Presidential CEO Advisory Board; and the JP Morgan International Council.
