This Tuesday (12/15), the Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque, participated in a working meeting, in videoconference format, with the Minister of Business, Energy and Clean Growth of the United Kingdom, Kwasi Kwarteng. The meeting served to review issues on the bilateral agenda in the energy sector, with an emphasis on renewable energies, such as biofuels, hydrogen and offshore wind energy, as well as to exchange views on the COP-26 of the Climate Conference, which will take place in Glasgow in 2021.

On the occasion, the ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which provides for bilateral cooperation in renewable energies and energy transition, in areas such as: a) development and encouragement of technologies and solutions for the generation and use of clean energy; b) strengthening of regulatory structures in favor of more efficient and competitive markets, in energy and environmental terms; c) decarbonization of the oil and gas sector, through public policies that encourage the accounting of emissions in the life cycle and technologies for carbon capture and storage; and d) promoting investment opportunities in renewable and low carbon energy.

Brazil and the United Kingdom have already developed an important technical and regulatory cooperation agenda in the energy sector, under the UK Prosperity Fund's Brazil Program, which has allowed the exchange of experience and best practices in clean energy. Under this cooperation, the Energy Research Company launched, in 2020, a Roadmap of offshore wind energy in Brazil.

Minister Bento Albuquerque praised the traditional relationship between the two countries in the energy sector and highlighted the opportunities that open up for cooperation and business in renewable energies, in the context of the energy transition to a low carbon future, a process in which Brazil and United Kingdom are international references.
