The fuel indices within the quality standards sold in Brazil in June of this year were similar to those of First World countries, as evaluated by the Fuel Quality Monitoring Program (PMQC) of the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP).

According to the ANP, 98.5% of the quantity of gasoline samples analyzed met the requirements. As for ethanol, 98.7% were in accordance with the standard. The diesel already reached 96.2%.

The program, which is one of the main instruments for planning the ANP's inspection actions, permanently monitors fuel stations throughout the country. According to the agency, the research reflects the general universe of fuel quality. By means of statistical sampling criteria, stations are selected to establish an index of conformity that represents a representative picture of the fuel market by state. The work is done by institutions and laboratories of universities contracted by the ANP through public bidding.

On the other hand, ANP's inspection focuses on fuel stations with signs of irregularities and is based on a planning work guided, among other things, by information from the PMQC, by complaints to the Agency's Consumer Relations Center (CRC) , The Product Movement Information System (SIMP) and the exchange of information with other bodies.

In the first half of 2017, the ANP carried out 9,793 inspection actions and signed 2,836 tax assessments. The data were higher than the figures for the same period of the previous year: 9,709 inspection actions and 2,793 infraction notices.
