The confidence of Brazilian businessmen and consumers increased in the September preview, in comparison with the consolidated result of August. According to data released today (15) by Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV), business confidence increased by 0.8 points and reached 95.3 points, on a scale from zero to 200 points.

The Current Situation Index, which measures business confidence at the present time, rose 2.7 points to 91.3 points. The Expectations Index, which measures the perception of entrepreneurs in relation to the future, grew 2.1 points, to 98.2 points.

Among the sectors, only trade fell (-1.2 points) to 95.4 points. The industry, with an increase of 7.1 points, was the main highlight and reached 105.8 points. If the result is confirmed at the end of the month, the segment will have fully recovered the losses for the two months March-April, due to the covid-19 pandemic, presenting the highest level since February 2013.

Construction grew by 2.6 points, to 90.4 points, but even if this result of the preview is confirmed at the end of the month, the sector should still be 2.4 points below February. The service sector grew 0.3 points, to 85.3 points. If the result of the preview is confirmed at the end of the month, the segment will have recovered only 79% that occurred with the pandemic.

Consumer

The Consumer Confidence Index (ICC) grew 2.1 points and reached 82.3 points in the September preview. The Current Situation Index rose 1.3 points to 72.8 points. The Expectations Index grew 2.6 points, to 89.7 points.
