In the first 15 days of September, the stock of Decarbonization Credits (CBios) on the stock exchange increased by 1.11 million and registered a record of trading with fuel distributors. During this period, the obliged party acquired 321,100 credits, a volume higher than the total amount negotiated in the last 4 months. The average price negotiated for the credit varied between R $ 19.75 and R$ 24.

Since the end of April, 657.97 thousand CBios or 8.1% of the available credit stock have been traded. Of the amount, 618.23 thousand credits were purchased by distributors and 39.74 thousand by the non-obligated party, that is, agents who bought CBios voluntarily in order to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from their activities.

"We started to follow the movement of the CBios market motivated by the publication of the revised targets for the year 2020. The important thing at the moment is that RenovaBio actually starts operating, making a reality of one of the largest transport decarbonization policies in the world", evaluates Antonio de Padua Rodrigues, technical director of the Sugarcane Industry Union.

According to data published by the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP), since the beginning of RenovaBio, at the end of December 2019, until September 9, 2020, the issuance of ballast for 8.54 was recorded million CBios (sum of the registered CBios and the pre-CBios of the invoices already validated), which represents almost 60% of the official target for the year 2020. Of this total backed by the agency, about 8.10 million credits already are available for trading at B3.

CBios goals

On the last 10, the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) published in the Official Gazette the revision of the compulsory target for 2020 of 14.5 million CBios, a 50% reduction motivated by the impacts of the pandemic of the new coronavirus on the market of fuels. The establishment of the volume of CBios for the year was decisive to unlock the commercialization with the obliged party. The 2021 target was set at 24.8 million CBios, a 41% reduction compared to the initial proposal.

RenovaBio

The National Biofuel Policy - RenovaBio was designed to achieve part of the goals for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions set by Brazil under the Paris Agreement. The program compares the carbon footprint of the different biofuels in their life cycle (from production to burning in the vehicle) to measure the emission reduction provided compared to the fossil alternative and establishes 10-year decarbonization goals, which are met with the increased use of renewable fuels and the trading of carbon credits.
