The FPSO Carioca MV30, the largest platform ever built to operate in the Brazilian offshore, began its navigation this weekend towards Campo de Sépia, in the Santos Basin pre-salt, located 250 kilometers off the coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro . The unit – built and operated by MODEC and chartered to Petrobras – will be able to process 180,000 barrels of crude oil (bpd) and 6 million cubic meters of gas daily, in addition to storing 1.4 million barrels of oil. The start of production at the unit is scheduled for August.

The platform arrived in Brazil in February this year to complete its construction. The activities carried out in Angra dos Reis (RJ) involved more than 600 professionals and included the construction and installation of the ship's flare, as well as activities to integrate the production and commissioning modules. MODEC will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the platform for 21 years.

“The completion of the construction of the FPSO Carioca MV30 in Angra dos Reis is an important milestone for the project, which will now enter the final commissioning phase before coming into operation. Developing the largest platform operating in the country is a source of great pride for MODEC”, says the project manager, Rafael Fumis. “This is our 11th partnership with Petrobras and the integration between our teams was fundamental to develop a platform that consolidates more than a decade of learning in the Brazilian pre-salt”.

The FPSO Carioca MV30 is the 13th platform ever developed by MODEC for the Brazilian offshore. Today, the company operates 10 units in Brazil and has another four units under construction for the country: FPSO Guanabara MV31, FPSO Almirante Barroso MV32, FPSO Anita Garibaldi MV33 and the FPSO destined for the Bacalhau field.
