One of the highlights on Wednesday (4/8) at Rio Pipeline 2019, event of the Brazilian Institute of Oil, Gas and Biofuels, was the need to expand the gas market in the country, which is undergoing greater integration with the electric sector.

The CEO of TAG gas carrier, Gustavo Labanca, defended, at a lecture during the event, that the country create rules for gas storage to supply the thermoelectric plants, necessary for greater flexibility of the generation system. This is because, he says, pre-salt gas production is continuous and thermals come into operation to complement intermittent renewable sources whose energy generation is not constant, such as solar, wind and hydroelectric. TAG is controlled by the Engie group.

To develop gas storage, he says, regulation is needed to gain access to information from oilfields, already fully explored. "There is great potential, especially in terrestrial fields in the Northeast and Espirito Santo, but investors need access to information about the geology of these depleted reservoirs to identify if they are suitable for storage," he said.

Labanca stressed that Engie's investments in the gas segment are in line with the company's pillar of being a global leader in the energy transition and reinforced its international experience in this market. “We can contribute a lot to the opening debate in the country's gas market and transport pipeline network. We operate a network of about 32,000 km in Europe, more than three times the Brazilian network, of about 9,000 km in Brazil. The numbers show how much the country has yet to invest in expanding its network, ”he said.

Young Arena

In the late afternoon of Tuesday (3/8), the programming of the Arena Pipeline was dedicated to the young audience. In partnership with Young Pipeline Professionals (YPP-Br), IBP organized a chat with young pipeline professionals and oil and gas executives to exchange experiences, amid the transformation of the segment. Carla Diniz, Director of People and Management at NTS, simulated a job interview with two volunteers and took questions from the audience about how to behave in a job interview and optimize curriculum experiences.

Nelson Leite (photo), chairman of TechnipFMC in Brazil, spoke to the public about career and personal life choices. "I think you have to listen and join the good people, the people who are bold, and not join the accommodating people. You have to have a master's head," he said.
