Industry in Rio recovers 51% of jobs lost in the months most affected by the pandemic, reports Firjan

A survey carried out by Firjan and published through the Regional Portraits platform points out that the industry of Rio de Janeiro recovered, from July to November, 51.3% of the jobs lost between March and June, the months most affected by the measures to combat the pandemic of Covid-19 and the uncertainties regarding the economy.

 

The analysis of the industrial sector, which includes the transformation, extraction, construction and public utility industrial services industry, shows that the sector maintained a positive performance in November and recorded the fifth consecutive month of hiring. There were 3,286 vacancies opened in November, with emphasis on civil construction (+891), manufacture of clothing and accessories (+520), maintenance, repair and installation of machinery and equipment (+462) and manufacture of food products (+ 347).

 

The trade recovered, from July to November, 67% of the jobs lost. The services sector, which started to resume hiring only in September, the indicator for the same period is 8%.

 

Regional Analysis 

In November, the state of Rio de Janeiro presented the fourth consecutive month of generation of new formal jobs. The result of the month (+32,673) draws attention due to the intensity: the vacancies generated in November exceed the result accumulated in October (+16,089), September (+9,449) and August (5,230).

 

All regions in the state of Rio had a positive balance of hiring, when considering all economic sectors. Capital was the main contractor, with 16,226 new openings, followed by Baixada (+5,721), Leste Fluminense (+5,302) and South (+2,628).

 

Retratos Regionais Platform

 

The Retratos Regionais platform is based on the balance of formal jobs made available in the General Register of Employed and Unemployed (Caged), of the Ministry of Economy. Sectorial panel provides specific data for industrial sectors.
