In the “Gas-electricity integration” session, the focus was on discussing how to harmonize the demands of the two sectors. Electricity seeks, in thermal generation, to complement renewables and oil companies face the challenge of making their production viable, especially in fields with associated natural gas.

In this context of increasingly competitive renewable energies, the electricity sector debates important changes in order to modernize its regulation. On the other hand, the natural gas sector is also going through a stage of rapid maturation, with the Novo Mercado de Gás. Thermal generation, according to the panelists, was identified with an important demand, with attributes such as energy security, electrical security, generation of cutting and reduction of transmission losses.

For Edson Silva, member of the ENGIE Executive Committee, “Brazil has room for inflexible generation, as long as it is competitive.” "To put more megawatts to generate, there has to be more demand to consume."

Luiz Carlos Ciocchi (photo), CEO of ONS stressed the importance of flexibility “As I know that in a certain region there is a characteristic that requires flexibility or power, I need energy at a specific time or contingency. This well-defined economic signaling service can attract investors to put their capital into that service. Currently, what happens is to seek this flexibility in services that are not paid by the consumer. ”

For Guilherme Perdigão, General Manager of New Energies at Shell, it is essential that in this moment of transition there is an alignment of pricing of new energies. “Flexible business models already exist in other markets around the world, but an economic signal is needed, as wind generation will not always be cheaper than gas generation, for example. Therefore, the separation of ballast and energy is essential. ”
