Yestserday, the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) turns 22/7, 60 years old. Created with the task of “studying and dispatching all matters related to mineral and energy production”, MME has, over this period of time, become an institution with a relevant role in Brazilian economic development, stimulating innovation, technology and sustainability.

The solid functional and regulatory structure, built over the 60 years of the Ministry is essential at a time when Brazil needs the most to endure the greatest health crisis in history and guarantee to all Brazilians, electricity, fuels and essential mineral raw materials to all sectors of the economy.

On Tuesday as yesterday, MME is present in almost everything in the routine of Brazilians.

The oil and natural gas and fuel sector experienced an extraordinary boost in the period. With Brazilian research and technologies, large areas of oil and natural gas exploration were discovered that took Brazil where no one had arrived. The country has become the eighth largest producer and the seventh exporter of oil in the world. Ethanol and biodiesel, made from renewable and less polluting sources, showed the strength of Brazilians' research and creativity.

The Ministry of Mines and Energy paved the way for the diversification of the Brazilian electric matrix and invested in renewable energies, generated from clean sources such as water, wind, solar and biomass, which Brazil has in abundance. Thus, it built one of the most renewable matrices in the world. They are 83% of clean energy against 27% of the world average.

Currently, the Ministry of Mines and Energy commands sectors that generate millions of direct and indirect jobs and that are fundamental to the Brazilian economy. There is much to celebrate of what has been accomplished so far. MME will continue to develop national policies of relevance to all Brazilians, transforming natural resources into prosperity and social well-being for the country.
