Calculations by the Sugarcane Industry Union (UNICA) indicate that the supply of Decarbonization Credits (CBIOs) to distributors must be 15% above the target established by the National Energy Policy Council (CNPE) in 2020, exceeding 18 million titles. The figure considers the volume of certified ethanol that should be marketed in the coming weeks.

On November 19, the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) announced that the CBIOs Platform had validated 15 million CBIOs, an amount that surpasses the 14.9 million CBIOs required to meet the goals of decarbonization established for the years 2019 and 2020 under the National Biofuels Policy - RenovaBio.

So far, the B3 system points out that 8.6 million CBIOs have already been purchased by distributors and another 6.3 million securities are available on the market.

"The fact that RenovaBio is being successful in a year like this proves the commitment of biofuel producers and the Federal Government to decarbonization and combating climate change. This is an achievement of Brazilian society as a whole, with reflexes for the whole world ", evaluates Evandro Gussi, president of UNICA.

"We need to highlight the serious work carried out by the Ministry of Mines and Energy, the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels and the National Energy Policy Council in implementing the policy and in the process of adjusting the decarbonization goals to the new reality brought by pandemic ", adds Gussi.

The National Biofuels Policy - RenovaBio was designed to achieve part of the goals for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions set by Brazil under the Paris Agreement. The program compares the carbon footprint of the different biofuels in their life cycle (from production to burning in the vehicle) to measure the emission reduction provided compared to the fossil alternative and establishes 10-year decarbonization goals, which are met with the increased use of renewable fuels and the trading of carbon credits (CBIO). The compulsory target for the obligated party for 2020 is 14.5 million CBios.
