Brazil’s official inflation—as measures by the National Broad Consumer Price Index (IPCA)—closed out 2019 at 4.31 percent. The rate is above the 3.75 percent reported for 2018, the government’s statistics agency IBGE declared.

The value was also higher than the center of the inflation, as gauged by the Central Bank for 2019—4.25 percent.

In December, the IPCA stood at 1.15 percent, above the 0.51 percent from November and 0.15 percent from December the year before. This is the highest result for the month since 2002 (2.10%).

Transport saw a major impact on December’s IPCA (1.54%), with gasoline prices facing a 3.36 percent hike.
