Petrobras has begun the process of selling Araucária Nitrogenados S.A. (Ansa), a company that operates in Araucária, Paraná, and Nitrogen Fertilizer Unit III (UFN-III), whose plant in Três Lagoas, Mato Grosso do Sul, is 80.95% complete. This initiative is part of Petrobras’ strategy to completely exit fertilizer production, as stated in its 2017-2021 Business and Management Plan.

The assets will be sold in a single package, and the whole process will follow Petrobras’ divestment master plan, a document that is completely aligned with Federal Accounting Court guidelines, which establishes the procedures for selling the company’s assets.

The construction of UFN-III was halted in December 2014, and around 80% of the physical work has been done. Since then, the facilities have been maintained and preserved by Petrobras. Once the asset has been transferred to its future purchaser, work to complete the project may be resumed.

About Araucária Nitrogenados

Araucária Nitrogenados S.A. (Ansa) was founded in 1982 and it has been a wholly owned Petrobras subsidiary since 2013. Using asphaltic residue, the unit is capable of producing 1,303 metric tons of ammonia and 1,975 metric tons of urea per day. These products are used in the chemical and fertilizer industries. The plant can also make 450 cubic meters per day of automotive liquid reducing agent, a chemical product that reduces the amount of nitrogen oxide (NOx) emitted by large vehicles. The plant can also produce up to 200 metric tons per day of CO2, which is sold to industrial gas producers, 75 metric tons per day of pelletized carbon, which is sold as boiler fuel, and 6 metric tons per day of sulfur, used for multiple purposes.

About Nitrogen Fertilizer Unit III

Work on UFN-III began in September 2011, and it is now 80.95% complete. On average, the unit will consume an estimated 2.2 million cubic meters per day of processed natural gas as a raw material. The plant will be able to produce 2,200 metric tons of ammonia and 3,600 metric tons of urea per day. Both products are used in agriculture, to make fertilizer. The plant will also be capable of producing 290 metric tons of CO2 per day.
