Saltire Energy Invests £5million to Expand Business in Aberdeen

Saltire Energy, a supplier of drilling tools to the offshore oil and gas industry, has announced plans to expand its operations in Aberdeen following a £5million investment in a 2.6 acre site in Badentoy, Portlethen.

Planning permission has been secured for 4650 sq. ft. of offices, a 12,500 sq. ft. warehouse and a 12,500 sq. ft. workshop on the new site with approximately 75,000 sq. ft. of additional open storage space.

The company will retain its two existing facilities which are 10,500 sq. ft. and 22,550 sq. ft. on Badentoy Road in Portlethen and the warehouse space which the company currently leases in Tullos, Aberdeen will also move to Portlethen.

The additional base will accommodate an increase in staff numbers in the coming year and will consolidate Saltire Energy’s operations within three bases located in Portlethen.

Turnover at Saltire Energy has increased by more than 50% for the second year in a row, from £21.5million in 2012 to £32.9million in 2013. Around 60% of Saltire Energy’s business is international, focusing on the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific, the Caspian Region and The North Sea, with further global development planned.

Mike Loggie, CEO of Saltire Energy said: “The new site will allow us to expand our operations in Aberdeen and to consolidate them within the Badentoy Estate.

“We plan to move the workshop space and our inspection services that we have in Tullos, Aberdeen to Portlethen, so that our operations in the region will now be delivered from our three bases in Portlethen. Our rental equipment remains in high demand and the additional open storage and workshop space will allow us to streamline our processes and provide an even better flow of equipment.

“Our current facilities on Badentoy Road will be retained and the new facility will give us the space to accommodate an increase in personnel, in the coming year. The additional storage and warehouse space will also allow us to continue to extend our suite of industry accredited drilling tools and pipe, following an on-going investment to drive further business growth.

“Our strong reputation for high quality customer service and flexibility has contributed to the global expansion of the business and we have plans to move into Europe with the opening of a base in Germany.”

Construction has begun on the site and it is expected to be completed by April 2014.

Saltire Energy was formed in 1986, has a team of more than 90 staff and an extensive inventory of drilling tools and pipe.
