U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce that the U.S. Department of State has established a partnership with two U.S. universities to host a new short-term program for youth. The EducationUSA Academy 2015 Pilot Program is a self-funded four-week academic program in the United States that will provide intensive English language courses, college preparatory content and cross-cultural activities for 15- to 17-year-old students, with intermediate to advanced levels of English language proficiency, primarily from Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, and Peru. The Academy will take place in July 2015 on two U.S. campuses: the University of Colorado Boulder in the State of Colorado and Syracuse University in the State of New York. The program is self-funded and costs approximately $5,000 per student, plus airfare. There will be up to 80 slots available for 2015. The deadline for applications is May 15.

Potential applicants must apply directly to the institution of their choice. Please refer to each institution’s website for more information about the program, applicable fees, and application procedures and deadlines:

EducationUSA Academy supports President Obama’s 100,000 Strong in the Americas initiative to increase educational exchange opportunities between the United States and the Western Hemisphere. A key goal of the Academy is to provide access to U.S. higher education for international students who may not have considered pursuing a two- or four-year degree in the United States. Prospective students will be provided with information, skills, and experience to apply to and be successful at U.S. colleges or universities.

The U.S. Department of State’s EducationUSA advising network includes hundreds of advising centers in 170 countries around the world, including XX in Brazil, that provide prospective international students with accurate, current, and comprehensive information about U.S. higher education. International education prepares students for today’s globalized economy, and develops the relationships between people and communities in the United States and around the world that are necessary to solve global challenges.
